The extreme part of the hill approaching Győr from the east is the Szabadhegy terrace, which lies about twenty meters higher than the general level of the city. The border of the district is Kakashegy. The settlement was mentioned in a document as early as the 12th century. According to old writings, its original inhabitants were royal grape growers and winemakers. The independent village was later annexed to Győr, but there is no reliable data on the date of this. The rural character of the district did not change until the middle of the 20th century. The built József Attila housing estate connected Szabadhegy to the city topographically from the 1970s. The rural character of the district is disappearing, the area is gradually urbanizing with the construction of terraced houses and residential areas. The economic infrastructure of the district is of an average standard. The service sector has developed a lot in recent years. There is a nursery school, three kindergartens, a primary school and a special education methodology center, a primary and secondary school, a vocational secondary and vocational school, and a community center.
Our school is the youngest institution in the area. It was founded in 1982, on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the world-famous Hungarian composer and music teacher Zoltán Kodály, by the city of Győr, as its third singing and music department, an 8-year primary school. In the 1983/84 academic year, the modern institution began its operation under the name Tárogató Street Primary School.
On May 24, 1985, the ethnographically inspired "Kodály Memorial" relief by goldsmith Barna Bardócz was inaugurated, and it has decorated our hall ever since.
The naming ceremony took place on May 23, 1986, which we earned with our educational work worthy of the composer's memory. The guest of honor at the naming ceremony was Mrs. Kodály Sarolta Péczely. At that time, the portrait of Kodály by Kossuth Prize-winning painter József Csáki - Maronyák was unveiled.
The school's image has been defined since the beginning by advanced vocal and musical training and the teaching of French as a second foreign language. Advanced vocal and musical education starts from the first grade. In cooperation with the music school, instrumental music lessons are also available. Choirs and chamber music also complement the range.
The catchment area of our school is characterized by the fact that children come to us from the housing estate, the single-family residential area and the newly built high-end residential areas. The parents' educational qualifications, occupations, financial background and level of needs show a wide spread. A significant part of the families are forced to take on extra work to compensate for their financial disadvantages. Thus, in addition to satisfying the additional needs of parents, our particularly important task is to help students with less ability catch up, and to support and train disadvantaged students. School life is becoming increasingly important in the education of students and in the useful use of their free time, as families have less and less time to spend with their children. We provide morning care, daycare, lunch and, if needed, a study room for applicants.
Outside of school, there are many opportunities for entertainment, knowledge and expansion in the modern library, IT and computer classroom, professional clubs, school sports clubs and student clubs. We regularly organize concerts, exhibitions, theatre visits, excursions and camping. We provide opportunities for religious
